Easily the loudest night of BOLA yet. Say what you will about Reseda, but the size of the place makes for a very intimate and energized atmosphere. Sure, it probably breaks an insane amount of fire and safety codes, but whatever. Every single match had the crowd in the palm of it's hand. The tournament matches ranged from pretty good to flat-out amazing. Indulge the nerdy star ratings...
Joey Ryan vs. Brian Kendrick- ***1/4
Scott Lost vs. Kenny Omega- ***1/2
Brandon Gatson vs. Alex Shelley- ***3/4
Roderick Strong vs. Human Tornado- ***1/4
Colt Cabana/LTP/Johnny Goodtime vs. Austin Aries/The Cutlers- **1/2
Joey Ryan vs. Kenny Omega- ***3/4
Roderick Strong vs. Brandon Gatson- ***1/2
The Young Bucks vs. El Steenerico- ****1/2
Kenny Omega vs. Roderick Strong- ****1/2
So not only did all of the tournament matches 100% deliver, there was an AMAZING Tag Team Title Match and an entertaining 6-man tag. What makes it even better is they didn't have to have an overly long losers tag match, and drag the momentum of the show down to give the guys in the finals rest. The Tag Title match was phenomal, and the Finals were just as good.
So in addition to being the loudest night of BOLA, it's also the most consistent and finished with two of the best in PWG history, let alone BOLA history. They absolute MADE two new stars in Omega (Already a big deal and over, before, he's significantly higher up after this weekend) and it goes without saying that Gatson put on the performances of a lifetime. The crowd could've easily turned on him after beating Shelley, who is a much bigger star, and a much bigger part of PWG up to this point. It could've been "too much too soon" but Gatson won in the perfect fashion with an innovative counter into a roll up. And that Space Flying Tiger Drop where his opponent moved and Gatson landed on his FEET... that was pretty damn impressive.
The aftermath of the finals was amazingly done, as well. Omega wearing a Young Bucks T-Shirt on night 1, Knox being the ref (Though that's a given in a Main Event PWG match) and Cabana on commentary. It was a lot of subtle things so when the moment happened and the Bucks attacked Omega along with Kendrick, that Generico ran out to save Omega, and then Omega questioned why Generico was really out there, Colt could come out to Generico's aid and explain to Omega what really happened. I really wanted Strong to win. I wasn't happy at all that he lost, but after that angle to close out the show, I can see why Omega won, and it was the right choice. I'm stoked for what's next. Less big-name indy talent? No problem for PWG. Great fucking show.
