Show Thoughts: 19th August 05 PWG Smells Like Steen Spirit

Postby head_bump » Fri Dec 30, 2005 1:52 am

What did everyone think of the show? Here is the card just as a reminder:

Hook Bomberry & Topgun Talwar vs. Disco Machine & Ronin
Scott Lost vs. Charles Mercury
Rocky Romero vs. Joey Ryan
Davey Richards & Hardkore Kidd vs. Alex Shelley & TJ Perkins
PWG Title: Kevin Steen vs. Quicksilver
Christopher Daniels vs. Chris Bosh
PWG Tag Titles: El Generico & Human Tornado vs. Petey Williams & Frankie Kazarian
Samoa Joe vs. Super Dragon

I was very impressed with the Lost vs. Mercury match as I wasn't expecting much, and I thought the main event was good but not great, which it should have been. The show came accross as solid with lots of the usual effort but its not a must have show. Also was there any reason why the PWG Title match was so far down the card?

i guess this is a good time to jump in...seeing that this was the first (so far only) show from PWG i own or seen...just ordered 'battle for LA'.

i really like this promotion from what i've seen from this show. makes me wish i lived out in so cal. hey, i got JAP so it's not so bad.

this show kicked ass. made me a fan. the only thing i thought negatively about the show, were the promos afterward. most of them need alot of work! but who cares? the wrestling was phenominal. i especially liked the chrisopher daniels match with chris bosh. very entertaining stuff.

It's a good event in my mind. Joey/Rocky was awesome and the crowd heat was off the charts great. It was well worked and Joey played a smart cheater really well. Lost/Mercury was also a fun match. Scott did a great job with Charles, and led to one of Charles' better matches in PWG. Steen/Quick was pretty fun, and the Steenalizer to the turnbuckle was sick. The main event was really good, but I honestly didn't think it was on par to Joe and Dragon's two previous matches. The event is really good, but it wasn't their best. Everything else aside from the above mentioned was either decent or good. Zombies Shouldn't Run from a few weeks before was a lot better than Steen Spirit.

Is there any place that reviews the PWG events and matches?

One of my buddies write for PWTorch and was covering the PWG shows from this year. Not sure if his results are still up or not. If not, just check out SoCalUncensored.

Cool... It kinda looked like B-Boy but I guess it's not. Pinky is a wrestler, right? (sorry for my lack of knowledge)

And I heard lots of good things about Jersey All Pro.

yea, pinky wrestles. he was trained by ec negro, who was a protege of homicide. he's mostly enhancement talent.

JAP is alot like PWG, but with an east coast flavor. on the JAP board, ppl speak very highly of PWG, so i had to check it out. especially since steen, genericho, jack evans, and Bboy have all wrestled in JAP last year. i was excited to hear that the human tornado will be making an appearance in the next couple of months.

Does enhancement talent = jobber? :)

I watch JAP World Wide so I kinda know what's going on with things over there.
