-This is the first year there are more imports than domestic talent as the last two years have been half and half.

-first year the continent of Oceania has been represented as both New Zealand and Australia have competitors in this tournament. Austria is also represented for the first time.

-I am not gonna do the research on this, but I'm assuming this is the BOLA with the most heavyweights as Michael Elgin is nust under 250 LBS. Brian Cage, Donovan Dijak, Jeff Cobb, Jonah Rock, and Keith Lee are all over 250LBS. WALTER is over 300.

As for a winner I think Sami has the best chance, but I really hope I'm wrong.

I would love to see Ricochet win this and turn heel on Chuck

I like the idea of Ricochet turning on Chuck. With the history those two have, it would make for a great storyline.

And oh boy I really hope Sami Callihan doesn't win. I feel like a bit of a dick saying this, but I have no wish to see him at the top of the card.

It's a shame that Lio Rush didn't have the chance to go out with a bang at BOLA, but the best of luck to him. He's a heck of a talent.

Which other matches are you guys hoping to see?

Ricochet vs. Flamita would be pretty darn sweet.

This is the first year since Cole won in 2012 that the winner isn't obvious, I love that. I have absolutely no idea. I feel like if there is ever a year that you can have a 2 time champ this is it.

One thing I worry about is if Keith or Cobb are the winner is the match quality. No disrespect at all, but 3 matches in one night in that heat at their size I am wondering if they can have top quality matches. Once again, not trying to sound like an asshole and mabey I am way off.

Also don't seel like a dick for rooting against Sami, there are 23 other guys I would rather see win.

As for matches I most want to see, Jonah vs Zack is the one I want most. Besides that:

-Trevor Lee vs Flash Morgan Webster
-TK Cooper vs WALTER(to get WALTER over as a monster and TK as a mega babyface. TK shouldn't try to be heel, zero chance he gets booed)
-Keith Lee vs WALTER
-Jonah Rock vs Jeff Cobb
-Cobb vs Riddle (I was at Progress when they wrestled, fucking incredible)
-Travis Banks vs Sammy Guevara
-Travis Banks vs Rey Horus
-South Pacific Power Trip vs Young Bucks
-South Pacific Power Trip vs Lucha Bros
-Any match with Dahlia Black (really hope she shows up)

Actually, I seem to recall that pretty much everybody on the internet agreed that only Brian Cage or Willie Mack had a realistic shot to win BOLA in 2012. That's just not the way it ended up. I like Sami more than a lot of you seem to, but I don't want him winning this either. And I think it's perfectly reasonable to have reservations about Keith Lee or Jeff Cobb working three times in one night. Neither guy strikes me as having a great deal of stamina, and plenty of guys with top level cardio would probably be worn down to nothing by three matches in burning hot conditions. Which is why, yet again, I want to suggest an alternative way to do BOLA as a three night event. A couple, actually. Alternative schedule #1-Instead of having Night Three be twelve matches long, do all twelve first round matches on Night One instead. Then, do the six quarterfinals on Night Two, with three non-tournament matches featuring round one losers and other surprise talent. Night Three opens with the three semi-finals, has four non-tournament matches featuring round one and two losers and other talent, and then finishes up with the finals. Alternative schedule #2-Night One has six first round matches, and then has the three quarterfinals set up from those first round matches. Night Two does the same with the other half of the bracket. Night Three opens with the three semi-finals, has four non-tournament matches with the round one and two losers and other talent, and then finishes up with the finals. Not perfect, but at least nobody has to wrestle three times in one night.

Yeah, you are right about the Cage/Mack thing, I remember a lot of people thought that would be the finals (looking back, thank God it wasn't).

About the format change, I like it the way it is just because of the amount of mystery matches we get, but I totally get your point.

And I am once again gonna bring up the possibility of Ricochet winning. Having him do 3 matches in one night you are gaurenteed great matches, great story with him vs Chuck after, and him potentially finally getting the title. But about Cobb and Keith...even if the bigger guys have the cardio and don't get winded(and we have seen Cobb get winded after one match when he debuted), it is still a risk for Dragon to put them in the position to do that many matches to begin with.

Cobb was a very high level amateur wrestler. Those guys wrestle multiple times during a weekend - usually around 6-8 imes or so depending on the tournament. I doubt we should be worrying too much about his stamina.

Rewatch the match with Hero...

That was over a year ago, so it is probally better, but he was dead after that match.

Chuck Taylor is Ricochet's trainer, and they've had a number of great matches against each other. And, to my knowledge, the only time they faced off in a singles match in PWG was at Steen Wolf in October 2011, and it was pretty good! So Ricochet winning certainly makes sense. But, nobody's ever repeated before, so I dunno. As we've all said, it's wide open this year. Makes it more fun to speculate, that's for sure.

Just to add to that theme list:

Rey Fenix
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x7yPhExdj3E

Brian Cage
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dx4sh8FXZzA

Michael Elgin
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dmjoLi2S5rc

Penta El 0M
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CVn0fVspOCU

Sammy Guervara
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=--I2hcFfGlA

Sami Callihan
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bg92QpjRcJk

Jonah Rock
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7hyD2yAZFwE

Matt Sydal
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yuge1tK5uoY

And that's it so far I guess though maybe Sami and Sydal's are different these days

Anyways, as for BOLA itself, looks great, just slightly disappointed we didn't get some participants from Japan or some returns like Dalton Castle, Timothy Thatcher, ACH, Jack Evans, or Will Ospreay

Castle's deal with ROH makes it difficult for him to make appearances in other major indies. Thatcher's in Germany for the next four months. ACH probably just isn't wanted back. Evans is too busy world traveling off the back of LU these days. Ospreay's cut down on bookings these days due to the wear and tear on his body from his style, and really doesn't do much but UK and NJPW work now. I was hoping for Marufuji, since he seems to be taking more Western dates now.

That's a very exciting line-up.

The Elite six-man should be all kinds of crazy (and it's great to have Omega be part of the weekend). Very much looking forward to The Bucks vs. The SPPT too.

As for the tournament itself, Ricochet vs. Flamita, Zack vs. Johan Rock, Guevara vs. Cooper, and Keith Lee vs. WALTER jump out for me.

Plus there are some very interesting pairings, such as Riddle vs. Elgin, and Cobb vs. Callihan. I expected all four of these guys to go fairly deep into the tournament, so it'll be intriguing to see which way those matches go. Personally, I hope Riddle and Cobb advance, but it wouldn't totally surprise me if the reverse happens.

I read somewhere that Castle's contract with ROH was ending already plus PWG and ROH already have a deal that allows guys to work for both companies and it sure as hell hasn't stopped other ROH guys from working PWG this year like the Young Bucks, War Machine, Trent?, Marty Scurll, and even Chuck Taylor. As for ACH, no clue the deal with him but I honestly wouldn't mind seeing more of him in PWG anyways. Understandable with Evans, Thatcher, and Opsreay but I hope they do return one day. As for Japanese guys, I was hoping for some representatives from Dragon Gate, New Japan, DDT, or BJW for BOLA personally.

This BOLA is perfect. In fact I think this is the best BOLA lineup of all time. You got Xavier, Keith, Horus, Guevara in their first BOLA's. TK, Travis, WALTER, Flamita, Dijak, Flash, and Jonah making their debuts. To me the theme of this year is young and hungry. You know all these dudes are dying to have killer performances and really break out huge, and for some get more international bookings. More so than any other year this is the future of independent wrestling. You may not have any "big names" like Liger or Cody, but this has everything else, heavyweights, flyers, luchadoes, guys from Aus/NZ for the first time, UK, mainland Europe. To me this tournament has everything.

As for what I am looking foward to most the SPPT/Bucks match without question. As for tournament matches, I am soooo excited about Jonah/Zack. With TK/Travis/Jonah in the tournament it will open the door for more guys from down under in 2018, as I predict we could see guys like Adam Brooks, Josh Shooter, Syd Parker, Mr. Juicy in BOLA next year. I feel like Jonah vs Zack could open the door and allow that to happen, and we are getting to experience the first domino fall towards that in person, and I am so fucking excited about that possibility.

Other than that obviously I am pumped about the 6 man, but I am really looking forward to Walter/Lee, TK/Sammy (that is a match that has litteraly never crossed my mind), and Travis/Haskins.

Once again, to me this is the perfect tournament, can't say enough good things about the matches they have booked.

Castle re-signed with ROH a month ago, El Asian. And from what I understand, some ROH contracts are more exclusive than others. War Machine hasn't been contracted with ROH for quite a while, either. They're freelancing right now, but the fact that NJPW gave them the IWGP tag belts again makes me hope they're leaning more towards NJPW, where they're actually used well, over the WWE, where I'm sure they wouldn't be. This tournament really does have a wrestling's future vibe to it, eastbay!

Saw Donovan Dijak shilling a shirt with his last dates at certain companies. Considering he's been linked to GFW, I think we shouldn't necessarily count on him being in BOLA, and if he is, it might well be his only appearances in PWG. Ditto for Dezmond Xavier.

Looks like Dijak put in some appearances for GFW, but has actually signed with the WWE and isn't taking any more indie bookings going forward. Great, yet ANOTHER guy the WWE can waste for years.
