It's a shame that a movie that has one part dedicated to Street Fighter can more authentically represent the franchise than the Van Damme Street Fighter movie did. I really hope the new SF movie is good. I can understand the anger over the movie not focusing on Ryu and Ken. I was a bit disappointed too, as Ryu was my favorite. But I assume Ryu and Ken will be involved in some manner. Regardless it makes sense as Chun Li's story is one that can be fleshed out more. Ryu is just a warrior in search of the next fight. While Chun Li has become an interpol agent who is trying to bring down the evil Shadowloo organization, which is responsible for the death of her father. Sounds good to me. I'm not familiar with Kristen Kreuk. So the tepid reaction she is receiving on the board does have me a bit concerned.

She's a decent enough actress, but the vast majority of her work has been on Smallville playing Lana Lang for the past 7 years. So being known primarily for portraying a comic book character on a comic book show that is geared towards a youthful audience doesn't really convince many people of her worthiness. It is somewhat of a paradox though as the Street Fighter movie is a video game movie geared towards a youthful audience as well. And it wasn't that long ago that the video game companies realized that the majority of gamers make up the majority of the people who buy comics. That's why events like Comic-Con started featuring videogame developers several years back. You'd think that there would be plenty of crossover fans who'd accept Kreuk, but when it comes to videogame & comic book movies fans demand respect of the source material and a level of quality & most importantly - believability... I'm looking at you Emo-Spiderman. I guess a lot of people don't think her credentials make her someone who could deliver a videogame adapted movie that doesn't suck balls, and we all know that videogame movies tend to suck balls... I'm looking at you Uwe Boll.

An extended Iron Man trailer. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Hx6TEqrzHU I like seeing that drink in Stark's hand. Hopefully Favreau will explore his alcoholic demons in a sequel.

More Batman, Ledger, Nicholson stuff...

Another MTV interview with Jack Nicholson; briefly talk about Ledger, Ambien, and so forth.

http://www.mtv.com/movies/news/articles/1582763/story.jhtml

Also, it was revealed that Chris Cooper was originally offered the role of Jim Gordon on Batman Begins. Interesting. I love Chris Cooper's body of work, but I must say that Gary Oldman seems like a better fit.

Do you recognize Robert Downey Jr. ?

Image

Robert plays a black man in the upcoming Ben Stiller movie Tropic Thunder. That title conjures up memories of Thunder in Paradise. Anyway, the movies is apparently about a group of pompous actors making the most expensive Vietnam war movie ever made. Fed up with their self-involved cast, the film's makers drop them into the jungle to take care of themselves, where they get caught up in a conflict they don't realize is real.

Controversy over casting Downey Jr. as a black male has already started. Some entertainment blogger stated "I'm not black and I find it offensive; are there not any talented enough black actors out in the world that they feel the need to hire a white guy to do a black guy?"

"They are inferring that there are no good enough black actors to play a black person.

"What is the significance of hiring a white guy to play a black part? what are they trying to prove? I bet its to get more publicity."

Downey said "If it's done right, it could be the type of role you called Peter Sellers to do 35 years ago. If you don't do it right, we're going to hell." I got to admit that is the most impressive non-cgi transformation of an actor I've ever seen. The last actor who impressed me that much was Viggo Mortensen in some of his earlier roles.

I can't wait to see the new Ben Stiller movie. Everything I've read about it seems hilarious, and Robert Downey Jr. in black-face so to speak is just ridiculous.

I stumbled across this a few minutes ago and thought I'd share since I'm a big fan of the Max Payne video game series. Mila Kunis (Jackie from That 70's Show) will star opposite Mark Wahlberg in the Max Payne movie. She'll be playing Mona Sax, an assassin & twin sister of a dead mafia boss' wife.

http://www.darkhorizons.com/news08/080310c.php

I included the link only because the photo they have up of Mila Kunis is scorching Hot!

Also, I read something interesting in a New York Times article. It seems that there was no second filming unit for The Dark Knight. Often times directors will have assistant directors film other scenes for them while the director works on another scene elsewhere. That was one of the ways that Peter Jackson was able to do Lord Of The Rings, he would often have 3 or 4 other units filming in other locations at the same time while he worked on another scene, and he'd have a satellite feed to all those other shoots. But with The Dark Knight not having a second film unit that means that every single shot in the movie was directed by Nolan himself. Very cool, and also very reassuring that he takes the material so seriously. He also talks about the idea that Batman himself starts to attract all kinds of criminals and lunatics to Gotham. He said it was a trend in the comics that he picked up on. Again, very cool.

I have to say that Nolan's dedication to the Batman series is very commendable. I'm happy to see a director take such pride and dedication in their Batman project.

WannaB wrote:Robert Downey Jr. in black-face so to speak is just ridiculous.
True very true. I'm curious to see how it plays out. I don't really see anything offensive in the portrayal to be honest. It's not like the "black face" Ted Danson pulled.

Remember this?

Ah, Max Payne the movie. Finally. I never played Max Payne 2 on the PC. I tried to play MP2 on the PS2 but I couldn't. It was so darn slow. The frame rate would bog down so much that it would just pull you out of the enjoyment process. Great series though.

Mark Wahlberg in the Max Payne movie.
But color me a bit disappointed in the decision to cast Wahlberg as Payne. I had always envisioned Dominic West as the right man for the job to portray Payne on the big screen. He sort of always reminded me of Payne, when he played McNulty on the Wire and also sounded like him at times.

Image

West will however play Jigsaw in Punisher 2. While I lost all hope once Thomas dropped out, I might at least check it out just to see West. Funny thing is Dominic even admitted that the movie might be down right terrible or surprisingly good in a quick interview.

It's not the right way to judge but looking at the imdb photos of Ray Stevenson, the new fellow they've casted for Castle, doesn't really make me feel better about losing Thomas.

Now I think she looks fantastic there. But I'm having a hard time picturing Mila in something so hard boiled. Still excited about this project.

I've been trying to catch up to a lot of movies I missed theaters. Right now I got Gone Baby Gone, No Country For Old Men and We Own The Night. I'm almost done with GBG. I really think Ben Affleck should do more work behind the camera. I think he is an underrated screen writer. I'm really enjoying Baby. I've been wanting to see No Country for a long time as I'm big Coen Brothers fan and Javier Bardem fan. It's neat to think I first saw Javier in a preview for Before Nigh Falls at the Laemmle while waiting for Crouching Tiger. Now he has been nominated for two Oscars, won one and has a higher profile in Hollywood.

I also think Ben Affleck should focus on the other aspects of film than acting. He just seems to be a great storyteller, with a great eye for detail. I much rather see him as a director with bit acting parts. I think with GBG and his turn in Assassination of Jesse James, Casey is the much better actor. We worked on both Gone Baby Gone and No Country for Old Men. I enjoyed both but I loved No Country for Old Men. I enjoyed everything from the story to the cinematography to the performances. Especially the cinematography because I am very familar with that part of Texas. I do recommend both movies but the performance by Javier Bardem is amazingly dark and special.

Hey-O. I just came across the new Hulk trailer. I wish Bana would've reprised the role. I liked him as Banner/Hulk. I'm just not a huge fan of Norton. Although I did like him in American History X.

An interesting thing about the new Hulk movie is that The Incredible Hulk is a reboot of the franchise ala Batman Begins & Casino Royale, and it has nothing to do with Ang Lee's The Hulk. Also, not many people know this but Edward Norton is actually considered a pretty brilliant screenwriter, so when Eric Bana passed, and Norton was offered the role he took a look at the script, did a rewrite (and in the process made it a reboot), and voila... The Incredible Hulk. Apparently Norton wants to release a cut that is too gritty for Marvel's liking as they want to appeal to the whole spectrum of moviegoers; families, children, adults, tweeners, etc... I hate when a movie company does that for the sake of money. Spiderman & Transformers are perfect examples of movies that had an injection of campy, corny, cheesey, crap in the buttcheek to appeal to family audiences. What's wrong with gritty realism in comic book movies? Thank G*d Warners has let Nolan do his own thing with Batman.

In any event I can't wait to see who will win out in the final cut; Norton or Marvel. If Norton loses hopefully his cut will make the DVD. I don't think the movie will be bad, but I do think a lot of people who were soured by Ang Lee's attempt at the franchise will not want to give this movie the time of day as I'm sure they'll think it's just a direct sequal & thus more of the same.

Oh ok, I wasn't sure about that.

Yes this is true. I've heard he has doctored many scripts. But even he couldn't save The Score. That one was a wreck with Brando and Oz arguing. It turned out to be predictable, at least to me.

You know Marvel is probably going to win. I agree with you and hope that Norton's cut does make it as a special edition DVD.

There was one thing I've always wondered about The Hulk. I'm hoping someone can explains this to me. Why did The Hulk turn gray for awhile?

Ever since Notron was announce to be in the Hulk ive been psyched too see it. He was too awesome for words in Fight Club. The trailer looks pretty damn awesome. The effects look better than the old Hulk as does the story.

I've been wondering what exactly 21 was about. I've been seeing a few billboards for the movie. I finally saw the trailer. I'm actually interested in the movie as I remember watching a documentary on the History channel about the MIT team that this movie is based on. It was a neat idea about a group of students who work together and try to break Vegas. From the trailer I can already tell that they've changed things around quite a bit but it still looks fun. Like the Professor played by Kevin Spacey is actually quite nerdy in his appearance. Ben Campbell the main character played by Jim Sturgess was actually a Russian student studying at MIT. Well with all the little changes aside I still want to see it and it's nice to see Larry Fishburne in something.

Yeah, they updated the setting to appeal to audiences. It really didn't matter what time frame the movie was set in, and setting it some 20 or 30 years ago might have turned off some people.

The book from which the film is adapted is quite good, as are all the documentries that have been made in regards to these MIT students.

It's a great story, and I think that to this day all the students involved are "banned" from Vegas. I mean, legally they can go to Vegas, but no casino will let them in the door.

I'm looking forward to the new Wolverine movie, if only because they casted Liev Schrieber as Sabretooth and, the sheer way to sucker me in this movie, Deadpool is in it
