CA-company wants to buy CHIKARA?

Postby Lord Akiyama » Wed Nov 03, 2010 11:44 am

From the Wrestling Observer Newsletter:

There are negotiations going on regarding a California-based company looking into purchasing CHIKARA, which would include an attempt to develop it as a television property.

I really hope this doesn't happen. As great as CHIKARA getting more exposure on TV would be, I don't like the idea of someone just taking over the company. Especially if its not someone whose into the wrestling business.

I hope that one day PWG will book the greatness that is known as Ultramantis Black.

Could the mysterious shadowy Board of Directors have some involvement in this? Is a global take-over plot in the works?

Everyone who seen the website has pretty much said it doesn't look real and almost certainly a storyline created by CHIKARA (although that didn't stop 411mania.com/wrestling reporting it as real a couple of hours ago).

What's interesting is too things; 1. The company is said to be based in Reseda, the home of PWG. 2. Recently videos on CHIKARA youtube's account are hyping the debut of "The Band". While some speculate it might be the trio of Kevin Nash, Scott Hall and X-Pac, others point out that in 2005 CHIKARA took a name of TNA stable and used in the CHIKARA universe (The Kings of Wrestling stable to be exact).

Could "The Band" be a group of PWG wrestlers? Could this be the begin of CHIKARA vs PWG?

I actually hope it is.

PWG stands to benefit from this. The roster is running low on numbers at the moment and could do with having a number of CHIKARA talent such as Ricochet making more steady appearences. As well as this PWG hasn't had a major storyline is a number of years and an interpromotional feud with CHIKARA could be huge, something PWG could get a year, maybe two years of storyline out of.

With CHIKARA talents such as Claudio Clastagnoli, Chuck Taylor and Ricochet making a strong impact in PWG in 2010, further interaction could really well PWG out.

^ Chikara needs this more than PWG. The BDK angle was a failure that led to nothing. PWG has had amazing show after amazing show this year.

The year just started and PWG hasn't had a show yet ;)

I get your point though.

The BDK angle is what put CHIKARA on the map for a LOT of people and lead to a lot of matches that were insanely intense; so I called the BDK angle the opposite of a failure.

BTW, "insanely intense". I'd love to see the number of Tursas matches on your list.

The angle turned off just as many, if not more, fans than it turned on.

1. If you go to google trends you'll see a massive spike right around when the BDK angle started, showing it put CHIKARA on alot of people's rader
2. Turas might not be a great wrestler, but Quackenbush knows exactly how to get the most out of him; the fact that no-one on the roster can even knock the guy off his feet has made the guy an absolute monster in a promotion dominated by smaller guys.
3. What's wrong with Kizarny? Sinn Bodhni is just a guy trying to make a living in the business, who's credibility was blown up by the WWE and now he's getting a second chance with CHIKARA. I haven't seen many of his matches, but what I have seen wasn't bad. Also it's not like he's being made a focus point of the promotion, it just happens he was giving a nice starting plot upon which to work with.

I love PWG, but CHIKARA has arguely had a better than 2010 than it.

BTW, Tursas lost in 5 minutes in the "season finale". Because they finally realized he fucking sucks.
