i think it's awesome that you'd even take the time to do that. thank you.
First of all, what do you consider local talent? People who wrestle exclusively in Southern California? I ask because currently Willie Mack, Brian Cage, RockNES Monsters, The Young Bucks, TJP, and Drake Younger are CA wrestlers who are featured regularly on shows in high profile matches. Paul London is from CA. Even Tozawa was a local CA wrestler for a year. Those are also the guys from CA who stood out to me, got over with the crowd, and put on high quality matches consistently. I don't think wrestlers who build their name in PWG have to be from CA. Some of them come from CA some of them come from Canada.
i pretty much consider any of the wrestlers who are most known for their work in the socal area to be local talent. all of the guys you listed xcept drake(who is awesome and i'm very happy was brought in).
PWG is about match quality. As I've said before, I go with quality over quantity. I have no desire to run more shows, and when I run 10 shows a year I want every single show to be the highest quality from top to bottom. I'd love it if I could do a whole show with nothing but local wrestlers and have shows be considered some of the best in the the country. That's just not realistic. As someone who built their name wrestling in Southern California, I am also rooting for local guys to do great. At the same time I have to be realistic and do what I think is best for every show. I'm not going to book guys just because they are local and less expensive. I don't book guys because they are my friends or because I like them as people. I book guys I think fit in and will eventually be ready to wrestle the best guys in PWG.
i respect that. i would also be happy if you guys ran a 3 star show between the 5 star shows. i'm easy to please.
I think part of the problem might be that we started using too many local guys at the same time, and maybe people expected all of them to stay. Certain guys eventually hit a wall, and it became hard to push them. I used a lot of the guys as much as possible, in the ways I thought made them stand out and keep match quality on the show high. Unfortunately, most of them weren't ready to be pushed higher on the cards. This doesn't just go for local wrestlers, this goes for anyone I feel doesn't fit in the right way. That also doesn't mean they won't ever be back. They all had potential or I wouldn't have used them in the first place. I was actually thinking about having some guys back for the anniversary show, which may or may not be in July this year due to some scheduling conflicts.
I hope that helps you guys understand things a bit better. I'm always looking for new talent, but I personally feel like this is the best mix of wrestlers/styles we've had in a long time. Don't worry, SSB will be back soon. Oh yeah, the next show isn't titled "JUNE 15" but the match order is how it appears!
it does, thanks again.
