BOLA 2017

Postby eastbay510 » Sat Apr 08, 2017 11:30 am

I know it's early, but BOLA is only a few shows away, so let's talk about it. With all the WWE signings this is gonna be a very intresting tournament. What is your lineup? What do you wanna see? Who is your winner? What don't you wanna see? Here is mine;

1) TK Cooper with Dahlia Black(if avalaible)
2) "Kiwi Buzzsaw" Travis Banks (if avalaible)
3) Zack Sabre Jr.
4) Marty Scurll
5) Chuck Taylor
6) Trent?
7) Keith Lee
8) Ricochet
9) Lio Rush
10) Pentagon
11) Fenix
13) Dezmond Xavier
14) "The Product" David Starr
15) Trevor Lee
16) Sami Callihan
17) WALTER
18) Axel Dieter Jr.
19) Matt Riddle
20) Jeff Cobb
21) Raymond Rowe
22) Hanson
23) Sammy Guevara
24) Will Ospreay

Since I seriously doubt Banks and Cooper won't be avalaible I will have Brian Cage and either Fred Yehi or Joey Janela as replacements.

Yeah, I'm not expecting much UK guys this year, with the exception of Ospreay, Sabre, and Scurll really, possibly WALTER could debut but if I had to guess, I am expecting a huge international name from Japan like last year to appear and maybe other bigger names.

Now I have heard a huge rumor from Dave Meltzer suggesting that PWG is looking into a bigger venue for BOLA this year, which I would be completely fine with, for a big show like BOLA, a big venue would be nice and it be only a once a year thing anyways, so at least having BOLA in a bigger place would be nice this.

A UK guy I would like to see that people often forget about is Paul Robinson. Even I left him off my list. It looks like he is about done in Progress, and he hasn't been heavily featured in a long time there, but he is fucking great, awesome in the ring, and one of the best pure heels on the indys. Besides him I can't really think of a UK guy debut. I think the main emphasis of this year will be new guys from the US scene with one or two big surprises (mabey Jack Swagger).

I'm sure there are still some UK guys for PWG to debut by BOLA, granted I was expecting Jimmy Havoc but that's not gonna happen, I guess there is Flash Morgan Webster until after his BOLA appearance that WWE ends up signing Webster anyways or even Paul Robinson. Anyways, for BOLA, I would expect it be a mixture of talents from Mexico, Japan, and Europe mixing it up with US talent, basically last year's BOLA anyways. Dream case scenario, I would like to see a rep from NJPW, Dragon Gate, and DDT for Japan though another dream case scenario would be Daisuke Sekimoto or Kota Ibushi to represent Japan as well while for Mexico, besides the Super Lucha Bros., we get the debut of Flamita, Ronnie Mendoza, or Daga. I guess for a random participant for BOLA, maybe Josh Barnett could participate since he's wrestling as of late.

And speaking of NJPW, I know Cody Rhodes hasn't exactly tore it up in PWG but I say he should get a spot for BOLA again this year especially if he is gonna compete in G-1 Climax by then, which would mean the tours working in G-1 Climax could help Cody get better by then and could be incredible for another BOLA appearance.

Also, this probably won't mean much but I wouldn't be surprised many streaming services like FloSports, Powerbomb.tv, or even the WWE Network have offered PWG to live stream BOLA this year, however, if those offers ever did happen, and mind you this is just me speculating based on nothing really, PWG would most likely decline all those offers.

So Chikara is running against PWG, and they announced CCK as one of the teams. You can rule out Travis Banks for BOLA.

Fuck. Still hoping for Cooper.

Sucks but despite that, I wasn't really expecting Banks to get a spot in BOLA this year, not because as any indication of his talent but I feel PWG already has a general idea on who they plan to bring for BOLA this year anyways. Also as expected, PWG confirmed BOLA will be on September 1, 2, and 3.

David Starr and Shane Strickland hate each other, so I don't really expect to ever see him in PWG, since Strickland's part of Sami's clique.

With the way tickets have been selling out, I really worry how quick BOLA tickets will sell out unless PWG has something worked out that isn't Ticketmaster because I rather deal with going through Paypal and buying it off directly to PWG and having it end up sold out by being 2 seconds off than dealing with bullshit from Ticketmaster.

As for David Starr, it sucks and I hope both him and Strickland just swallow their pride because shit like this shouldn't hold guys back and its PWG, if CZW can book Starr and Strickland on a show together, then PWG should have no problem.

As we've said before, with the changing landscape of wrestling in the past year or so, BOLA could be really interesting this year. If Taylor wins the title at the next show, then there really doesn't seem to be an immediately obvious winner. But, on the other hand, it's actually hard at the moment to even guess who the 24 participants will be anyway! A tournament with no obvious winner could be really exciting!

So I have been on an Aussie craze of late in case you guys didn't notice several of my latest posts on here. I was just talking to Mick Moretti (who is doing a US tour right now, and is wrestling in Chikara and PWX) on Twitter and he said he will be in LA BOLA weekend. I wonder if there is any chance he could debut. He is really weird, but really good in the ring and has an entertaining character.

Keith Lee, Big Daddy Walter and Travis Banks added! I don't get how Banks can make this work if he's supposed to be in King of Trios the same weekend in England, but whatever.

Yeah, this is shocking. I guess he is working N1 of KOT and 2 and 3 of BOLA. When I flew back to LA after SSS16 I only lost 3 hours. He will be tired as hell, but its doable.

While its doable, gotta say, its probably not the most recommended thing to pull off either. Personally, it be better if Banks canceled his Chikara booking anyways since there will be more eyes on BOLA than at KOT and the fact he could be at his best for BOLA instead plus avoid any flight issues like what happened last year with Jack Gallagher.
